President Donald Trump proposed passing legislation to make the burning of the flag illegal during his statements at his gathering in Tulsa, Oklahoma, lamenting the demonstrations he had seen across the country.
“Tonight, we know left-wing extremists in Portland, Oregon, tore up the George Washington statue, wrap it in an American flag, and set the American flag on fire. Democrats! All Democrats!” Trump told his supporters gathered in the half-filled square.
The President added, moving to Oklahoma Senators: “And you know, we have to do something, Senator, we have two great senators, we must come up with legislation that if you burn the American flag, you will go to prison for one year.” Jim Anhoff and James Lancford. “Jim and James, you know we should do that. You know, they talk about freedom of expression, and I believe in freedom of expression. But this is profane.”
Trump told the Conservatives in a call earlier this month that he believed the Supreme Court’s decision to re-protect the burning of the flag as freedom of expression should be reviewed, describing the law as “a disgrace.”
“We have a different court and I think it’s time to review that again. Because when I see flags being burned – they wanted to crawl the flags of Washington and try to burn the flags but we stopped them,” the president said. Conservative, according to the voice of the call obtained by CNN.
